National Museum of Nature and Science has a vast collection of about 4.9 million specimens, many of which are kept in storage and are not usually open to the public. This special exhibition is a touring exhibition produced for the purpose of displaying selected mammals and other specimens from Yoshimoto Collection, known as one of the world's finest collections of animal specimens from its storage facilities, at museums and other institutions around Japan, and will be held specially at the museum.
The theme of the exhibition is "Eyes of Observation, Sprouts of Discovery". Through the "voiceless specimens," this exhibition will nurture the eye of observation (observation) and the eye of discovery (discovery), and enable visitors to learn and discover questions related to specimens, such as unexpected similarities with other animals and their connection to our daily lives.
Online advanced booking is required for all visitors to enter the museum (Ueno district).
*Opening days, hours etc. are subject to alteration. Please check the website before your visit.

The specimens were obtained by hunting from all over the world between 1946 and 1995. Donated to National Museum of Nature and Science by the W.T. Yoshimoto Foundation, Oahu, Hawaii. The collection consists of 412 specimens of mammals, birds, and reptiles, many of which have been preserved as whole-body taxidermy, and includes many specimens from areas that are now difficult to survey, making it of extremely high scientific value.
We have purposely left no information around the taxidermy so that visitors can observe it from an unadulterated point of view. With more time and opportunities to think more deeply than ever before, you may come up with your own insights through the observations and the discoveries that are possible because of the taxidermy.
