Body disclike, 1.8-2.0 in SL. Dorsal profile of snout slightly concave. Dorsal fin distinctly elevated. Anal fin elevated less than dorsal fin. Caudal fin truncate or convex. Caudal peduncle with 2 bony plates. Color: body mostly dark, with alternating pale and dark bars overlain with yellow and whitish vertical lines; lower part of body with yellow spots; head pale gray with close-set white spots, dark vertical band through eye; dorsal and anal fins dark with curving yellow lines; caudal fin with or without pale spots. Size: attaining to 40 cm. Distribution: Indian Ocean. Remarks: found in the coral reefs, usually in sheltered areas.
