Body oblong, compressed; dorsal profile moderately convex, ventral profile slightly convex. Adipose eyelid weakly developed on posterior half of eye. Breast completely scaled; straight part of lateral line almost entirely with scutes (27-42). Color: body silvery blue-gray dorsally, silvery white ventrally; no black opercular spot; second dorsal, anal, and caudal fins blue; pectoral fin yellow, especially in juveniles and young adults. Size: maximum length about 1 m. Distribution: widely distributed in Indo-Pacific and tropical Eastern Pacific. Remarks: found in coastal waters; juveniles occurring in brackish waters. Feeds mainly on fishes and crustaceans. Marketed fresh, dried, and salted.
