Dussumieria elopsoides Bleeker, 1849 Slender Rainbow Sardine

Body elongated, cylindrical, slender (16-22% SL); belly rounded without prepelvic or postpelvic scutes. Premaxillae rectangular; branchiostegal rays numerous (13-18). Scales cycloid with numerous tiny radiating striae posteriorly. Color: dark blue-green dorsally, silvery ventrally. Size: maximum ca. 20 cm SL. Distribution: widely distributed in Indo-West Pacific from the Persian Gulf to Solomon Is., north to southern Japan. Remarks: pelagic, inshore fish. Feeds on planktonic crustaceans and small fishes. Marketed fresh, dried, or driedsalted.(Seishi Kimura)
