D 11-13; A 10-11 (usually 10); P1 11-13; P2 8; LGR 26-32; PDS 8-13; LR 35-41.
Body elongated, cylindrical, belly rounded without prepelvic or postpelvic scutes. Maxilla toothless; premaxillae triangular; second (posterior) supramaxilla symmetrically shaped. Branchiostegal rays few (6-8). Scales cycloid with continuous vertical striae and smooth posterior margin. Color: body greenish without bright silver midlateral band. Size: maximum ca. 9 cm SL. Distribution: widely distributed in tropical Indo-Pacific from South Africa and the Red Sea to Society Is., north to southern Japan. Remarks: pelagic, inshore schooling fish.(Seishi Kimura)
