Spratelloides gracilis (Temminck and Schlegel, 1846) Silver Stripe Round Herring

D 12-13; A 12-14 (usually 12-13); P1 13-15; P2 8; LGR 27-37; LR 42-48.
Body elongated, cylindrical, belly rounded without prepelvic or postpelvic scutes. Maxilla with fine teeth; premaxillae triangular; second (posterior) supramaxilla asymmetrical, lower part larger than upper. Branchiostegal rays few (6-7). Scales cycloid with discontinuous vertical striae. Color: body bluish white with a bright silver midlateral band. Size: maximum ca. 10 cm SL. Distribution: widely distributed in Indo-Pacific. Remarks: pelagic, inshore schooling fish.(Seishi Kimura)
