Body relatively short, compressed; head subcylindrical; lower jaw slightly projecting anteriorly beyond upper jaw; gill opening extending anteriorly to well beyond a vertical through preopercular margin. No elongate and filamentous dorsal-fin spines; pelvic fins almost separated. Scales on body ctenoid; head, nape, pectoral-fin base and breast naked. Color: head and body bright red, with several irregular orange and pale saddles on dorsum; pale beige or gray, tinged with red posteriorly; 6 vivid yellowish red stripes on head; two oblique narrow orange bars below eye; dusky spot just above operculum. Size: 2.5 cm SL. Distribution: Indian Ocean. Remarks: found in coral reefs.
