Body deep, compressed. Snout round, dorsal profile of head straight. Mouth small, terminal, without fleshy lips; 2 pores and a median pit on chin. Scales ctenoid; 7-8 scales above lateral line, 14-16 scales below; circumpeduncular scales 9+2+11; basal sheath of scales on dorsal and anal fins present; soft portions of dorsal and anal fins with rows of small interradial scales. Color: silvery white with 4 horizontal black or dark brown stripes on dorsal half of body; anal fin with a dark brown streak or blotch covering anterior two-thirds of soft-rayed portion. Size: maximum total length about 25 cm. Distribution: currently known only from the Andaman Sea coast of Thailand. Remarks: found in shallow (less than 5 m) inshore silty coral reefs, often seen near the shelter of corals or on sand bottoms with coral patches.(Ukkrit Satapoomin)
