Yellowbreasted Wrasse

Body slightly to moderately deep, compressed. Mouth small, terminal; lips moderately fleshy. A single pair of incisiform forward-projecting teeth at front of each jaw; remaining teeth in jaws minute or imperceptible; no teeth at corner of mouth or on roof of mouth. Head scaleless. Caudal fin rounded. Color: no obvious differences in color between male and female; body, upper head, and dorsal and anal fins dark brown with black-edged blue dots; thorax and lower head bright yellow; caudal fin light red with pale blue spots and whitish posterior margin; a large blue-edged black spot at rear of dorsal and anal fins. Size: maximum length about 15 cm. Distribution: Indo-Pacific, from East Africa and Red Sea to Society Islands. Remarks: inhabits a broad range of reef habitats at depths of 5-30 m.
