Chromis ternatensis (Bleeker, 1856) Ternate Chromis

Body deep and compressed. Posterior margin of preopercle smooth. Suborbital scaled, with entire ventral edge. Teeth on jaws conical, muliserial; teeth of outermost row larger than those of inner rows. Caudal fin forked; three conspicuous projecting spine-like rays at upper and lower edges of caudal-fin base. Color: head and body gray dorsally, gradually turning whitish ventrally, with dusky edge of scale pockets; small area around pectoral-fin base tinged with yellow; blackish vertical bar (as wide as pupil) through middle of eye; distinct black streaks along dorsal and ventral margins of caudal fin. Size: 7.0 cm SL. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific. Remarks: found around branching corals in shallow coral reefs; forming aggregation.
