Dascyllus carneus Fischer, 1885 Indian Dascyllus

Body deep, compressed. Posterior margin of preopercle serrate. Suborbital scaled, with serrate ventral free margin. Teeth on jaws conical, muliserial; teeth of outermost row larger than those of inner rows. Caudal fin emarginage, with rounded lobes; two conspicuous projecting spine-like rays at upper and lower edges of caudalfin base. Color: head and anterior and ventral parts of body pale beige or pale yellow, while posterior part of body behind a dusky vertical bar through pectoral-fin base pale (with dusky reticulation in large specimens); small blue spot on each scale of head, nape and breast; pectoral and pelvic fins blackish; caudal fin whitish, subtranslucent. Size: 5.0 cm SL. Distribution: Indian Ocean and Andaman Sea. Remarks: found around branching corals in reefs; forming aggregation.
