Posterior margin of preopercle serrate. Suborbital scaled, with serrate ventral margin. Snout moderate in length, distance between eye and ventralmost of preorbital bone less than eye diameter. Teeth on jaws uniserial, incisorlike. Caudal fin deeply emarginate; no conspicuous projecting spine-like rays at upper and lower edges of caudal-fin base. Color: head and body blackish brown or dark olive brown, darkened dorsally; each scale with paler center; juvenile yellow, with a sky or paleedged black ocellus at anterior part of dorsal fin. Size: 12.0 cm SL. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, Andaman Sea and Western Pacific. Remarks: found in rocky or coral reef lagoons.
