Pterois antennata (Bloch, 1787) Broadbared Lionfish

Body oblong, compressed. Supraocular tentacles well developed. All pectoral-fin rays unbranched; outer half to three-fourths of fin free of membrane. Color: body with numerous brown to brownish red bars of variable width, those on caudal peduncle narrow, irregular, and oblique. Supraocular tentacles and dorsal-fin spines with white and brownish red cross bands. Soft-rayed portion of dorsal fin, and anal and caudal fins translucent with small brownish red spots scattered on rays. Size: maximum length about 20 cm SL. Distribution: widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific. Remarks: found mainly on coral reefs to a depth of 76 m.
