Body moderately elongate; body depth less than head length, 2.8-3.2 in SL. Head length 2.4-2.7 in SL. Preopercular margin finely serrated. Dorsal-fin membranes not incised or moderately incised between spines. Caudal fin rounded. Pectoral fin middle rays longest, its length longer than longest pelvic-fin ray length, 1.7-2.2 in head length. Lateral body scales distinctly ctenoid, with auxiliary scales. Color: body olive to reddish brown, usually with irregular pale spots and blotches. Three dark streaks across opercle. Median and pelvic fins mottled. Pectoral fin uniform. Size: maximum length about 43 cm. Distribution: distributed in the Indo-West Pacific, from Pakistan east to eastern Indonesia. Remarks: inhabits in harbors and estuaries with muddy or silty sand bottoms. No commercial importance.(Hiroyuki Motomura)
