Body elongate; its depth 3.1-3.4 in SL. Upper lip of males thickened at symphysis, forming a protuberant papilla. No teeth on tongue. Preopercular margin serrated. Middle pectoral-fin rays branched. Lateral line extending onto caudal-fin base; body scales extending onto bases and membranes of dorsal and anal fins. Color: body mainly cerise, with yellow area dorsally from dorsal-fin base to caudal fin. A narrow reddish stripe extending from tip of snout to pectoral-fin base. Dorsal and caudal fins yellow. Pectoral fins translucent. Pelvic and anal fins whitish. Size: maximum length 12 cm SL. Distribution: distributed in the Indian Ocean and Sumatra, Indonesia. Remarks: found on coral reefs at depths of 4-40 m. Feeds on zooplankton.(Hiroyuki Motomura)
