Inimicus cuvieri (Gray, 1835) Longsnout Stinger

Body oblong, moderately compressed. Head relatively small. Orbit only slightly elevated. Snout length usually equal to or longer than postorbital length. Interspinous membrane from fourth rewards less than onefourth spine height. Lower pectoral fin rays free and detached from remainder of fin; no filamentous upper pectoral fin rays in adults. Color: body brown or grayish brown dorsally, paler ventrally. Head usually with minute black spots. Inner surface of pectoral fin without distinctive pattern, mostly solid brown, without spots. Size: maximum standard length 19.5 cm. Distribution: distributed in the Andaman Sea and the western Pacific, from the Philippines south to northern Australia. Remarks: occurs on sandy or mud-sand bottom less than 50 m depth. A highly venomous species.
