Body fusiform; pectoral fin very short, less than 80% of head length, never reaching interspace between 2 dorsal fins; 2 separate flaps between pelvic fins; a strong lateral keel between 2 small keels on caudal peduncle; back dark blue, ventral side silvery; reaching to 225 cm fork length. Usually found Southern Ocean mainly between 30 and 20 degrees south. The photographed specimen (200 mm FL) characterized by a short pectoral fin and 27 gill rakers.
Badan gelendong; sirip dada sangat pendek, kurang daripada 80% panjang kepala, tidak pernah mencapai daerah diantara dua sirip punggung; dua selaput kulit terpisah diantara sirip perut; sebuah plat bertulang mendatar yang kuta diantara dua plat tulang kecil pada batang ekor; punggung biru tua, sisi perut keperakan; mencapai ukuran 225 cm panjang cagak. Biasanya ditemukan di lautan selatan terutama antara 20-30°S. Photo individu (200 mm FL) mempunyai cirri-ciri sirip dada pendek dan 27 tulang saring insang.
