Caranx ignobilis (Forsskål, 1775)
Giant trevally

D VIII - I, 18 - 21; A II - I, 15 - 17; GR 5 - 7 + 15 - 17 = 20 - 24. Body oblong, compressed; dorsal profile strongly convex, ventral profile slightly convex. Adipose eyelid moderately developed on posterior half of eye. Breast naked ventrally with a small patch of prepelvic scales; straight part of lateral line entirely with scutes (26 - 38). Vertebral count 10 + 14 = 24. Color: body silver to silvery gray dorsally, paler ventrally, matured males darker or uniformly black; no black opercular spot; fins usually dusky in adult, but anal and pelvic fins and lower lobe of caudal fin yellow in juveniles. Size: maximum length about 1.7 m. Distribution: widely distributed in Indo-Pacific, from eastern coast of Africa to Hawaii. Remarks: occurring in coastal waters, juveniles often entering into estuaries.
