−What are myxomycetes?−

Myxomycetes or slime molds had been regarded as plants in former times because they made spores like mushrooms and molds, and had been included in the Fungi which, in turn, belonged in the Plant Kingdom. However, their vegetative bodies are amoeboid and then they are rather animal-like. Therefore, the myxomycetes are extremely mysterious organisms, considered as both fungi and animals in taxonomy.
