Museum Facilities
Zoology Department, Botany Department, Geology and Paleontology Department, Anthropology Department and Science and Engineering Department conduct their research at this facility. The Center for Collectons, Center for Molecular Biodiversity Research and Center of the History of Japanese Industrial Technology are also located here.
Once a year the Tsukuba Research Departments hold an "Open Laboratories," in which the facility is open to the general public.
In a 140-square-kilometer arboretum, the Garden reproduces the environments of a wide range of plant life from every region of Japan and the world. The plants on exhibition offer visitors an opportunity to study at first hand the diversity of plant forms and habitats. Naturally, this campus provides the backdrop for the research activities of the Botany Department.
Plants, insects, birds and other living things form a natural menagerie, living and propagating throughout this spacious 200-square-kilometer area. A fascinating variety of flora and fauna can be observed throughout the seasons.
The Center collects, evaluates, stores and exhibits to the public a wide range of materials related to the history of industrial technology in Japan. A further function of the Center is to maintain a ledger of important materials on the history of industrial technology and to provide the public and academia with information about them.

The Center for Molecular Biodiversity Research was established in July 2006 to promote the development of biodiversity studies. It is a comprehensive facility for the collection and storage of DNA research materials, DNA data and evidentiary specimens from which DNA is extracted.
